I recently completed this mural painting on the yarning circle at Narrandera Hospital for the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

This was a fantastic project to complete as I was also able to involve local school children a cultural experience in having them participate in painting and learning about Wiradjuri culture.

This mural tells the story of elders gathering at a meeting place along the life giving Murrambidya River and passing on knowledge of our tribal lands to our young people represented by the hands covering the murals. It teaches the children the lay of the land and where to find food and other resources to ensure our culture survives for many more thousands of years.

ARTWORK TRANSFER TO VINYL

I’ve been asked about the process of how my artwork gets transferred onto large spaces or onto objects such as these totem poles created for the 2022 Narrungdera Earth Fest in Narrandera, or other things like the Transport NSW water trucks.

I have some excellent people I work with in the process to do this.

It all starts with creating a painting that is made to relevant dimensions – you can see in these photos the original paintings on canvas.

I have a fantastic photographer who photographs my canvas artworks so the clarity retains no matter how big the final image needs to be.

And then I work with a creative signage team who transfer the images onto vinyl, which can then be applied to all sorts of surfaces and objects.

These poles pictured that were the final product for the Narrungdera Earth Fest in 2022 and are over two metres high.

PAINTED COOLAMONS

Another item that I haven’t shared a photo of for a while are some of the coolamons I painted a couple of years ago.

Coolamons are a traditional Wiradjuri item.

They are made from timber sections taken from trees and then used to carry different objects or food, and they were also were used traditionally to carry babies who would lay on furs from animals.
